about

Acclaimed British/Iranian duo Whilk & Misky have announced they will release their debut album 'Soheyloo' on August 6th via Fox Lane Music. To coincide with this announcement, they have released the first single and album opener, 'The Meeting'.

Despite years of highly successful & acclaimed releases and performances, Whilk & Misky have never released an album. Thus ‘Soheyloo’ serves as the anticipated first iteration of the duo’s complete sound and message within a body of work, and is the first in a trilogy of records to come from the pair.

The album ‘Soheyloo’ tells the tale of a fateful encounter between a soul searching western boy and a free-spirited Iranian girl and the social, religious and political pitfalls that seek to keep them apart. Utilising Iranian samples and combining time signatures - repeat listens of the record will reward with shifting musical structures and concepts, with Charlie’s inimitable lyrics and vocals painting pictures amidst swirling sonic landscapes.

'Soheyloo' will consist of 6 brand new tracks, tracklisting below:

Hailing from Iran and Britain respectively, Whilk & Misky are: Nima Khaste and Charlie Dickens. Nima’s upbringing in the middle east served as one of his many early musical influences, but it was artists such as Portishead, Stimming and Nicholas Jaar which really ignited his love of glitchy, atmospheric electronic music.

Charlie was born and bred in the south of England, and cemented his love of blues and rock at an early age, after listening to Chuck Berry’s Johnny B. Goode. He went on to form a rock band which performed the length and breadth of the UK’s live music venue circuit - but it was clear he was craving to express his creativity outside the confines of the strict indie-rock format. One day, in an East London diner, Nima and Charlie met by chance. They soon discovered a mutual love of music and shared a tiny flat together, to begin making music.

Fast-forward a few months and Whilk & Misky signed to a major record label and partnered with Elton John’s Rocket Music management. Hit records followed, which were released to huge success and acclaim. Their 2014 hit Clap Your Hands was singled out by BBC Radio 1’s Zane Lowe at the time, who nominated it his “Hottest Record In The World”, and it went on to be streamed over 50 million times globally. Their subsequent single ‘All By Myself’ was dubbed by NME as “Anthem of the Summer”. This new found acclaim and recognition led to Whilk & Misky performing across the globe, with artists such as Gorgon City, Rag ‘n Bone Man, Rüfüs, Jess Glynne, Clean Bandit and more.

Despite their storied career to date - from their stratospheric rise, to performing and socialising with some of the music world’s biggest stars - the duo remain unreservedly true to the mission statement they devised many years ago in their Hoxton flat. Whilk & Misky are about human connection, and the power & growth that can come from artistic collaboration; the coming together of the organic and the electronic. A parallel with the world we're living in today, surely.
